Train & Metro Practical Tips & FAQ

Do Chinese train stations require physical tickets?

Not always. China Railway says both e-tickets and paper tickets are available. For a foreign-passport booking, carry the original passport used to buy the ticket and ask station staff which check-in channel to use.

What if the automated passport scanner fails at the gate?

Walk to the far-right or far-left manual verification lane (人工通道), where station staff will manually scan your passport bio page and verify your booking.
