Navigation Frequently Asked Questions
Which map app works best in China without VPN?
Apple Maps works reliably in English on iOS without VPN. For walking, metro transfers, and local businesses, Amap (高德地图) provides the most up-to-date mapping data.
Why does Google Maps show offset routes in China?
Google Maps uses standard WGS-84 coordinates while China uses the encrypted GCJ-02 coordinate standard, causing visual map offset. Use Apple Maps or Amap instead.
Are subway stations marked in English?
Yes. 100% of urban metro systems in major Chinese cities feature English and Pinyin signage on station entrances, platforms, route maps, and train announcements.
